Free Web Tools

Free web tools to check, test and improve your website and hosting. Every tool is free to use, with no sign-up needed.

Find the right tool for the job

Not sure which one you need? Here’s what each tool is for, grouped by the problem you’re trying to solve.

Domains

  • Domain Availability Checker: see if the name you want is free, straight from the registry, and check other extensions at the same time.
  • Domain Age Checker: find out when a domain was registered and when it expires. Useful before you buy an expired domain or judge how established a site is. You can compare up to 10 at once.

DNS, SSL and server checks

  • DNS Lookup: read a domain’s live A, MX, TXT, NS and other records, plus SPF and DMARC. The first stop when email breaks or a site won’t load after a move.
  • Website Hosting Checker: find out who hosts any website, its IP, network and CDN, even when it sits behind Cloudflare (when that’s possible to detect).
  • SSL Certificate Checker: make sure browsers trust a certificate, see when it expires and which domains it covers.
  • HTTP Headers Checker: see every response header a page sends, get a grade for its security headers and a plain-English read of its caching rules.

SEO and page checks

  • Meta Tags Analyzer: check a page’s title, description, canonical and social tags, with a preview of how it looks on Google and when shared.
  • URL Redirect Checker: trace every hop of a redirect chain, spot loops, and test all four http/https and www versions of a domain.
  • Redirect Code Generator: write 301 redirect rules for .htaccess, Nginx, PHP or IIS, for one page, a whole domain or a bulk list.
  • WordPress Theme Detector: see which theme and plugins a WordPress site uses when you like its design or features.

Speed and images

  • Page Size Checker: measure how heavy a page really is and which files weigh it down.
  • WebP Converter: turn JPG and PNG images into much smaller WebP files right in your browser, in batches.

Planning and calculators

  • Bandwidth Calculator: estimate how much monthly data transfer your site, downloads or video need, so you pick a plan that fits.
  • Uptime and Downtime Calculator: see how much downtime a 99.9% (or any) uptime guarantee really allows per day, month and year.

Choosing a host

Shopping for hosting? HostMatch asks a few quick questions about your site, budget and skills, and gives you the three hosts that fit best, with the reason behind each pick. If you’d rather do the research yourself, start with our step-by-step guide on how to choose a web hosting provider.

How our tools work

We built these tools for our own work on hosting reviews, and we keep them free. A few things worth knowing:

  • No account, no sign-up. Open a tool and use it.
  • Some run entirely in your browser. The WebP Converter, Redirect Code Generator, Bandwidth Calculator and Uptime Calculator never send your files or inputs to our server. Your images stay on your device.
  • Checkers run from our server. Tools like the DNS Lookup, SSL Checker and Hosting Checker need to contact the site you enter, so our server does that and sends you the result. Some results are cached for a short time so a repeat check is fast.
  • Fair-use limits. The server-side checkers allow a generous number of checks every few minutes, to keep them fast for everyone. If you hit a limit, the tool tells you how long to wait.

Many checkers also accept a link, like /tools/ssl-checker/?url=example.com, which runs the check as soon as the page opens. Handy for bookmarks or for sharing a result with your developer.

FAQ

Are these web tools really free?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free, with no account, trial or credit card. The site is supported by affiliate links in our hosting reviews, not by the tools.

Do you store the websites or files I check?

Files never leave your device: the WebP Converter works in your browser. For the online checkers, our server only fetches what it needs to answer, and any cached result expires on its own after a short time.

Which tool should I use when my website is down?

Start with the DNS Lookup to see if the domain still points to your server, then the SSL Checker to rule out an expired certificate. The HTTP Headers Checker shows the exact status code the server returns, which tells you whether it’s an error, a redirect or a block.

How can I find out who hosts a website?

Enter the domain in the Website Hosting Checker. It looks up the site’s IP address and network and tells you the hosting company, the CDN in front of it, and who handles its DNS and email.

Can I use these tools on my phone?

Yes. All the tools work in any modern mobile browser. The WebP Converter needs a browser that can create WebP images, and it tells you if yours can’t.
